Reaction with Mg

When haloalkane is treated with magnesium in the presence of dry ether, Grignard reagent (RMgX) is produced.

Precaution while synthesis of Grignard Reagent:

It is not synthesized in the presence of moisture, alcohol, or amines as Grignard reagent is unstable in their presence and hence leads to the formation of corresponding alkanes or arenes.
